Romania Travel and Landscape Photography Highlights

ROMANIA TRAVEL & LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY COLLECTION

BY MATTHEW WILLIAMS-ELLIS, UK BASED COMMERCIAL TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHER LIVING IN LONDON

Below is a collection of my favourite photos taken during a recent scouting trip for a photography holiday to Romania that I am running in Summer 2018. It was incredible. While Bucharest, the capital city, feels modern and lively, other regions feel someone hit the pause button 50 years ago. Life has a wonderfully relaxed pace, the people are joyous and the landscape is untouched. I even managed to find some great subjects such as the traditional hay stacks that were perfect for adding to my 6 minute exposure project, which was a bonus.

I visited the Transylvania Region, Maramures Region and Bucovina Region. The Carpathian Mountains and Transylvanian castles were magical at dawn and dusk, and the people in Maramures were fascinatingly forthcoming with stories and insights. Days were spent wondering through villages, simply meeting and chatting to locals via my fantastic local guide Daniel (who will be the local guide on the photography holiday too). The most exciting thing about photography in Romania is not knowing what is happening around the next corner. I stumbled across shepherds herding their flocks of sheep, women spinning wool and a local traditional clothes festival.

If the photos below leave you wanting more, my full collection of photos of Romania can be found in my Romania travel photography archive.
