Take a journey to photograph two of Africa’s most iconic subjects in their most iconic locations.
Amboseli National Park
Our first location is Amboseli National Park, known as the “home of the African elephant”, with one of the highest densities on the continent. It is also a stronghold for supertuskers (elephants with tusks over 100 pounds). We will spend some time searching for these magnificent animals, and also exploring the park more widely.
February is a great time to visit Amboseli, with high chances of Kilimanjaro being visible. If there’s a more impressive backdrop in Africa, I’m yet to find it.
Mara North Conservancy, Maasai Mara
Our second stop on the trip is Mara North Conservancy in the Maasai Mara. I have spent many months in Mara North, and it has been responsible for some of my favourite sightings and photographs. Home to both the Serian and Offbeat prides, there are lions a plenty, including (at time of writing) the four magnificent Enkoyanai Boys - a coalition of four impressive males with the most beautiful manes (just check out Enkongu on the front cover for example). There are also chances of cheetah, leopard, serval, and always an incredible abundance of elephants, plains game and birdlife.
The benefit of visiting a conservancy like Mara North rather than the National Reserve itself is that it offers exactly the same diversity and volume of wildlife, with the added bonus of fewer visitors. Vehicles are limited to 5 on a sighting which makes for much more intimate sightings, and more importantly, benefits wildlife.
Camps
You will be staying at Elewana Tortilis camp in Amboseli, and Offbeat Mara North - both beautiful, tented camps in prime locations.
