Take a journey to photograph two of Africa’s most iconic subjects in their most iconic locations.
Naboisho Conservancy
Our first stop is Naboisho Conservancy in the Maasai Mara. The Mara has been responsible for some of my favourite sightings and photographs. It offers incredible big cat sightings and a remarkable density of other wildlife. Why Naboisho in particular? It currently has a pride of 41 lions. Yes, you read that right. With so many lions, and it’s beautiful open plains, this will be the main focus of our time here.
The benefit of visiting a conservancy like Naboisho is that it offers exactly the same diversity and volume of wildlife, with the added bonus of fewer visitors. Vehicles numbers on a sighting are limited too, which makes for much more intimate sightings, and more importantly, benefits wildlife.
Amboseli National Park
Our second location is Amboseli National Park, known as the “home of the African elephant”, with one of the highest densities on the continent. It is also a stronghold for supertuskers (elephants with tusks over 100 pounds). We will spend some time searching for these magnificent animals, and also exploring the park more widely.
February is a great time to visit Amboseli, with high chances of Kilimanjaro being visible. If there’s a more impressive backdrop in Africa, I’m yet to find it.
