MARRAKECH, ESSAOUIRA, ERG CHEBBI SAHARA DESERT & THE HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS – MOROCCO TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY HIGHLIGHTS
Below is a collection of my favourite photos of Morocco from a two week trip around the country. I have almost never experienced such a wide variety of landscapes in such a short space of time….
Marrakech – no city in the world is more frenetic or colourful than Marrakech. It’s famous souks and historic sites explode from Djemaa El Fna, the chaotic main square in the centre of Moroccos’s capital.
Essaouira – a short 4 hours bus ride west from Marrakech, you will find yourself immersed in the old fishing town of Essaouira. This old city known as Mogodor has a lively maze of back streets filled with souks and an interesting and rugged old fishing port area crammed full of bright blue fishing boats.
Erg Chebbi Desert – A (very) long drive in the opposite direction, East of Marrakech takes you towards the Erg Chebbi Desert. This area of Sahara desert is home to Morocco’s highest sand dunes, towering over 150m tall.
High Atlas Mountains – …and to the south, visible from the centre of Marrakech is the Atlas Mountains. With an hour you can be exploring the numerous peaks around Imlil. A two day trek from Oukaimeden (Morocco’s permiere ski resort….yes, ski resort!) to Imlil, via Tacheddirt and the Tizi n Tichka pass (literally translated as ‘The Pastures Mountain Pass’).
I hope you enjoy the photos!
