SOLO PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION BY LONDON BASED TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHER MATTHEW WILLIAMS-ELLIS
Unfortunately ‘Photographic Tales from Latin America’ has come to an end. It was a great success… mostly down to lots of you coming along, spreading the word and leaving lots of fantastic comments! So a big thank you!
How did the exhibition come about?
This exhibition was photographed over a five month period from September 2014 to February 2015. While I simply stumbled upon a number of the subjects, some were planned far in advance by myself and others were taken while working for UK and South America based travel agencies. The exhibition is entirely curated and funded by myself with a view to not just opening people’s eyes to Latin America, but also to travel in general.
What is the exhibition about?
Experience Latin America through a series of short photo essays from Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina. Featuring documentary, landscape and portrait photography, the exhibition offers encounters with Argentinian Gauchos, displays the power of impressive Patagonian landscapes, takes you to the glacier covered 5,897m summit of Cotopaxi Volcano and introduces you to many more places and people…
Will you be exhibiting these photos again?
While I have no plans right now to show the full exhibition again, some of the photos are appearing at Latin America events and restaurants around London. If you know of anywhere that might be of interest, please do let me know!
Are you returning to Latin America?
Definitely! I am in the process of organising a photography holiday to Peru. I also plan to extend this trip so that I can hike more of Patagonia’s stunning trails, climb another Ecuadorian volcano and possibly head further north towards Colombia. I am also hoping to photograph the wine-making process, from vine to bottle…but this is just a work in progress at the moment. There has been lots of support for a coffee table book, so I will continue with the project with a view to perhaps publishing one in due course.
Do you have any suggestions about where to go or what to photograph in Latin America? Feel free to let me know in the comments section below.
