PRIVATE UK PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS
As well as fixed date photography workshops in London and elsewhere, Matthew also offers private photography workshops in London, the Cotswolds, North Wales and numerous other locations around the UK.
Matthew’s photography workshops are about learning, practising and experimenting with newly learned techniques, tips and tricks, while exploring a location. Time spent flicking through slides indoors will be kept to an absolute minimum!
Whatever the location, during the photography workshop, Matthew will nurture your photographic eye, help you develop a proactive photography mindset and ensure you understand how to apply your new found skills to any given situation you find yourself in when photographing in the future.
A TYPICAL DAY
Each workshop varies depending on the location, time of year, weather, your skill level and whether there are any particular aspects of photography that you would like to learn master. The first hour of a typical photography workshop will start with getting to know your camera controls, talking about the relationship between shutter speed, aperture and ISO, how to photograph in aperture priority mode and ensuring your camera skills are ready to be put to their test. The rest of the workshops is spent teaching ‘in the field’ tutorials, allowing you to capture exciting photographs at the same time as learning new techniques (see below). I always recommend ending the workshop with a sunset and night photography shoot ensuring you will come away with a variety of images that you will be proud of.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
The best part of hiring Matthew on a personal basis is that he can tailor the content exactly to meet your needs. Typical subjects include:
- Aperture and depth of field
- Shutter speeds – understanding and creative uses
- Using manual settings
- Shooting on aperture priority mode
- Compositional techniques and ideas
- Making the most of available light
- Night photography
If you would like a photography workshop in a location that Matthew has not photographed before, he will also happily take you through his usual methods of prior research, scouting out the best locations and subjects, before deciding on the optimum time to visit based on seeking the most dramatic light.
